The Ghora Train

Ghora Train, Gangapur

Sir Ganga Ram built it in 1898 to carry heavy machinery for his farm and construction works: a tram on railway tracks, pulled by horses. It still runs, and there is nothing else like it left in Punjab.

Ganga Ram, a Hindu engineer born at Mangtanwala, went on to draw the plan of Jaranwala itself in 1908, and is remembered as the Father of Modern Lahore. He died in 1927, twenty years before partition.
